Academic commitment:
86% of Columban graduates obtain either a degree or diploma level matric pass.

Multiplier effect:
Typically, the initial group of 15 people grows to 45 who then impact on 250 additional learners in the school.

Social return on investment:
A return of R4 for every R1 of investment.

Research

At Columba Leadership, we combine internal quantitative and qualitative data with external research and evaluation to prove impact.

After participating in our programme, 95% of participants report increased confidence; 93% are inspired in terms of education, 96% are future orientated and 95% are inspired to do more for their school and community.

At a school level, in-house research conducted with the principals of some of our partner schools reveal the following: 100% attest to a measurable impact of Columba on the school, with 90% confirming it made their role and the role of educators easier. 100% indicated an improvement in the culture of learning.

We invite corporate participation in our programme. Research by Jonathan Cook, formally of GIBS, indicates improved work effectiveness and leadership competence centred particularly on improved confidence.


RECOGNITION:

In July 2012 the International Partnership Network (IPN) recognised Columba Leadership with the Global Best Award for the Best Partnership in Africa for the Development of Enterprise and Entrepreneurial Skills.

In December 2013 we received a Gold Award from Impumelelo Centre for Social Innovation.

In 2014 we were a finalist in the Mail and Guardian Investing in the Future Youth Development Award.

Also in 2014 we were selected to be part of the Santa Clara University Global Social Business Incubator Program in Silicon Valley in the United States of America. Columba Leadership was chosen from hundreds of applicants worldwide as one of 15 participant organisations in the accelerator programme. The programme culminated in a “2015 Investor Showcase,” in August 2015. The event is attended annually by 300 Silicon Valley investors, industry experts, and individual philanthropists who are interested in impact investing.

In 2016, Columba Leadership in partnership with Manyano High School, was shortlisted for the Ministerial Youth Excellence Award presented by the Western Cape Department of Social Development.
